Thoughtless
December 10th, 2008
Thought, the ‘me’, the ‘I’, the ego,
is the maker of trouble.
The stirrer of the pot.
Thought is of time,
of the past,
of the future.
What is, is The Timeless.
Where time is,
The Timeless is not.
The ego is always self-projecting.
Grasping, wanting more,
it never stops.
Thought is of memory,
of word,
of desire.
Thought cannot see what is.
Where thought is,
what is is not.
The ‘I’ is always deciding, wanting certainty.
Security in an insecure lot.
Thought is the known, the conclusion,
the striving for result.
What is, is The Unknown.
Where the known is,
The Unknown is not.
The ‘me’ is always comparing, competing.
Measuring.
The Immeasurable is,
when thinking is not.

I’m not a big fan of poetry, so I’m not your best judge, but I like it. It’s well written, and seems to be very philosophical – suggestive of meditation – although I couldn’t tell you what it’s about. But then that’s not the point of your poem – or is it?
Thanks for the feedback Leif.
Well, it certainly is about something. Something very important I think. Still, I’ve been quite obscure in a way, I guess that’s poet’s license :) In another way though it’s not at all obscure and says exactly what I mean.
Any clearer? :)

i really like it, its been a while since i read a poem of any sort but i now feel compelled to rediscover poetry :)
would love to get in touch by the way! long long looonnngggg overdue a catch up old buddy!!!!:)
Dear Michael,
Thank you for this beautiful reminder of the ego, self, and thoughts that are mere incidences in the slow/super fast turning of the universe. To be in touch with such clarity and objectiveness is hard for us humans in the madness of life. I relate to this in the way I ‘think’ about my spirit/soul. I love the word ‘cadence’, and this seems to describe this poem literally and on a Grand Level.
